Yoo Min-sang, the son of "Legendary Catcher" Yoo Seung-an, served as the hitting coach for the Lotte Giants' remaining forces in the 2025 season.

Yoo Min-sang, a graduate of Seoul High School and Yonsei University, entered the professional league in 2012 after being selected by Doosan in the seventh round. He retired in 2021 after playing for KT Wiz and KIA Tigers. He is a member of baseball family along with his father Yoo Seung-an (former Hanwha Eagles) and his brother Yoo Won-sang (former KT Wiz).

I didn't have a stellar star player's time in my decade of professional life before retiring in 2021, but I was a batter with solid defense and a shot at first base.

Since his retirement, he has distanced himself from baseball. When asked about his recent situation, coach Yoo Min-sang said, "I lived a little distant from baseball. I worked at camping sites, helped with household chores, went overseas, and was busy," adding, "I went to baseball academies sometimes as friends, but I never coached."

Lotte manager Kim Tae-hyung offered to take the coaching position himself. Although Yoo was a teacher-student relationship with Doosan between 2015 and 2016, Yoo Min-sang was not a key player in the first division at the time. Has Kim Tae-hyung been watching him since he was a player with good integrity and attitude toward baseball.

"As you know, a coach is not the type to give long explanations. I'm just grateful that you contacted me when I got a coach position. He strongly said, 'Work hard.' "

Yoo Min-sang's position is as batting coach for the "Remainers." "I played for 10 years thanks to steady growth in my baseball skills every year. I managed to survive on the pro stage for a year or a year," Yoo said. "Only geniuses do ball reporting, and I have made great efforts to survive among those geniuses every year."

"I was the type to aim for and hit thoroughly. I analyzed each and every ball and hit it after deciding which ball to hit. I used to change the expected ball arrangement according to the starting pitcher and catcher of the day. I don't think I can suggest that there is a way like this, not necessarily like me."

The Remainers are a stage where players who have injuries or concerns about their professional careers play. The average age of Lotte's coaching staff for the Remainers is higher this year, including general manager Kim Kwang-soo, pitching coach Kim Hyun-wook, battery coach Kang Sung-woo and performance-rehabilitation coach Lim Kyung-wan. "Many baseball players used to play with my father. I will take good care of them," coach Yoo Min-sang said with a smile.

"I want to help young players grow. I survived the professional game too, I want to tell you that you can do it."
